Poisoning
Thousands of dogs are poisoned every year, leading to serious illness and death. The good news is that you can help prevent this from happening to your pet, since the causes are usually common household products, flowers and plants, certain human foods and everyday medicines.
Symptoms of poisoning include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and breathing problems. Other more serious health conditions include seizures and coma.
If you suspect your dog has been poisoned, stay calm, act quickly and seek immediate care from your healthcare professional. You can also call the PET POISON HELPLINE at 1-855 213-6680, which has medical professionals available to assist you for a one-time fee of $49 for this service. Or you can call the ASPCA Poison Control Center at1-888 426-4435.
Gather any potentially poisonous substances you believe your dog may have ingested. This information will assist your healthcare professional or the poison control hotline in determining an appropriate treatment plan.
